| Personal Statement:I am a student and I value the constant pursuit of knowledge, the desire to expand our ways of thinking and analyzing the complex world around us. As a student and a future teacher, I understand that learning is a collaborative and dynamic process that involves more than simply memorizing facts. I also understand the struggles many students face, especially those learning English or those students who are placed in environments that don't have the resources to challenge them and support their academic needs. This is why I became a tutor. My dream is that every student, regardless of age or achievement, will have a personal mentor in addition to a teacher that will provide the guidance and curriculum to meet his or her specific needs. Unfortunately, our current education system cannot provide this for our schoolchildren, but tutoring offers the extra help that students deserve. I enjoy tutoring and I am passionate about literature and writing and I will teach students the importance of building a strong and sophisticated writer’s “voice.” I believe that my experience with creative writing and my current graduate work for a teaching credential in English have adequately prepared me to tutor young minds and cultivate an appreciation for language development and critical reading skills.
